Tours of the Anlaby House and Garden are available for groups of 10 or more [by prior appointment]. These tours include the principal rooms of the house including the servants work rooms, kitchen, scullery and butler’s pantry. At the end of the house tour you will have a strong sense of how the family and servants lived and worked there.
With approximately 10 acres of garden a guided walk through these historically listed gardens typically includes the shade house, glass house, walled vegetable garden, rose gardens and terraced lawns. The original carriageway winds past the front of the house and down to the peacock aviary.
The garden is indeed a restoration work in progress and not all in pristine condition. The garden is of the old fashioned “English style” yet located in a dry South Australian climate and this creates challenges…. We wish we still had the 14 gardeners from 1904!!
The House and Garden Tours indeed take you on an historic journey through a step back in time! Lunch or Morning/Afternoon Tea can be provided for your Tour Group – please check the “Tours” page for further information.
Anlaby Station has become a popular location for Weddings and Functions. Indeed, Anlaby is a very special and unique place. From the grandest occasion to the most intimate – whatever the event – with Anlaby as the venue will ensure it is memorable.
Anlaby is the home of the oldest Merino Stud in South Australia and when visiting Anlaby Station you are bound to see some of our merino sheep as they graze in the open plains or perhaps the wooded areas. Treat yourself to an Anlaby Throw Blanket – Our Anlaby Throw is the first of our merino wool product range woven exclusively from wool shorn from the Anlaby flock and is provided with a numbered certificate of authenticity. These are available through our Online Shop.
To completely immerse yourself in the tranquility and beauty of Anlaby, and absorb the history of your surroundings, why not stay awhile in the Manor House and wander through the gardens at your leisure. Staying in the Manor House, a two story building that was once the Manager’s and Accountant’s Offices and has been converted into self contained Bed and Breakfast accommodation offers three bedrooms upstairs, with a kitchen, bathroom and very comfortable sitting room downstairs. A unique Bed and Breakfast experience indeed.
With new Restoration Projects planned and in the process of happening all the time there is always something new to discover at Anlaby whether it is your first visit or one of many. Located near Kapunda in South Australia, but in close proximity to both the famous Barossa Valley and Clare Valley regions, Anlaby is well worth a visit!
