This fine product has been made in Australia from pure merino wool grown exclusively at the Anlaby Merino Stud in South Australia.
The Anlaby flock (registered number 102) is one of the oldest continuously operating merino studs in Australia and is understood to be the oldest in South Australia. It maintains a genetic line that started in 1839 when approximately 1,200 sheep owned by Mr. F H Dutton were driven overland from the Colony of New South Wales to Koonunga in South Australia and subsequently to the property now known as Anlaby near Kapunda.
The following extract is from “Australia Unlimited” (circa1917):
“In 1856 Mr. Dutton improved his flock by the introduction of some imported Rambouillet rams and between that date and 1869, five more different importations of specially selected Merino rams were made from Saxony, which were of service in fixing the robust type of sheep and fleece which has always been a characteristic of the Anlaby flock.”
This Anlaby throw is the first of our merino wool product range woven exclusively from wool shorn from the Anlaby flock and is provided with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
This product has been manufactured using the minimum processing possible to retain the natural color and softness of the wool. Traces of vegetable matter inherent in all free range fibres bear testament to our commitment to using only the most natural production processes.
The Anlaby throw is an Australian product made possible by over 170 years of commitment to the Australian Merino Wool Industry by successive stud masters and managers of the Anlaby Stud: a unique part of Australia’s rich rural heritage.
